Farm Cattle as Nature’s Helpers

The regular grazing of the area helps to maintain an important habitat.

Anyone crossing the sunny Darß in the last few weeks was seldom alone: our herds of farm cattle have been out to pasture on the extensive acreage of the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park. Here they find the juicy saltmarsh grass, which grows in the National Park. Their preferences not only help them provide well for themselves, but also for consumers and nature itself.

Untouched saltmarsh grass which grows between the Baltic Sea and the Bodden lends the biologically-grown beef from Gut Darß its very special taste. The regular grazing of the area helps to maintain an important habitat. The land areas containing the saltmarsh grass serve rare species of waders as breeding grounds. Undisturbed by humans or machines, the animals spend their summer months here on Gut Darß.
