The sheep farm is the newest enterprise to be added to our estate: on January 1st, 2006, the experienced old shepherd, Herr Zimmer, began enjoying his well-earned retirement and the sheep breeding work was transferred to the care of our estate. The sheep farm was thus established as an independent business unit for the first time. There are many good reasons for the »sheep breeding« enterprise. It was important for us to expand the product range of the Darß Estate by offering a particularly delicious product of sheep breeding: With immediate effect, our farm shop will also offer fresh organic lamb – a tender delicacy that will quickly win over many customers. Another important point is the conservation of traditional sheep rearing practices in West Pomerania. In the ecological balance, it constitutes an important part of landscape conservation that is threatened with extinction. In the coming year, therefore, the natural maintenance of the Boddendeiche by ravenous herd animals will be started.
